Neural Network Approach to Water-Stressed Crops Detection Using Multispectral WorldView-2 Satellite Imagery

چکیده
The paper presents a method for automatic detection and monitoring of small waterlogged areas in farmland, using multispectral satellite images and neural network classifiers. In the waterlogged areas, excess water significantly damages or completely destroys the plants, thus reducing the average crop yield. Automatic detection of (waterlogged) crops damaged by rising underground water is an important tool for government agencies dealing with yield assessment and disaster control. The paper describes the application of two different neural network algorithms to the problem of identifying crops that have been affected by rising underground water levels in WorldView-2 satellite imagery. A satellite image of central European region (North Serbia), taken in May 2010, with spatial resolution of 0.5m and 8 spectral bands was used to train the classifiers and test their performance when it comes to identifying the water-stressed crops. WorldView-2 provides 4 new bands potentially useful in agricultural applications: coastal-blue, red-edge, yellow and near-infrared 2. The results presented show that a Multilayer Perceptron is able to identify the damaged crops with 99.4% accuracy. Surpassing previously published methods.

Multispectral detection of invasive alien plants from very high resolution 8-band satellite imagery using probabilistic graphical models
This paper describes the use of probabilistic graphical models, in particular Bayesian networks (BN), for the detection of two problem invasive alien plants, C. odorata and L. camara, from the recently-launched 8-band Worldview-2 satellite imagery acquired on 26 September 2010 over central Swaziland. The main objective of this work was to apply and evaluate the efficacy of the very high resolut...
متن کاملSea Floor Classification with WorldView-2 and Bathymetry Data
Earlier research results have shown some potential of using high resolution satellite data, like QuickBird, for sea floor classification, but the number of bands have been a limiting factor. In this paper we present the results of a preliminary study of the use of WorldView-2 data for benthic cover classification in the Swedish archipelago. WorldView-2 is the first high-resolution 8band multisp...
متن کاملRoad Network Extraction from High Resolution Multispectral Satellite Imagery Based on Object Oriented Techniques
High Resolution satellite Imagery is an important source for road network extraction for urban road database creation, refinement and updating. However due to complexity of the scene in an urban environment, automated extraction of such features using various line and edge detection algorithms is limited. In this paper we present an integrated approach to extract road network from high resoluti...

This paper describes our approach to the DSTL Satellite Imagery Feature Detection challenge [11] run by Kaggle. The primary goal of this challenge is accurate semantic segmentation of different classes in satellite imagery. Our approach is based on an adaptation of fully convolutional neural network for multispectral data processing. In addition, we defined several modifications to the training...
متن کاملUrban Land-cover Mapping and Change Detection with Radarsat Sar Data Using Neural Network and Rule-based Classifiers
This paper presents a new approach to extract urban landuse/land-cover information from high-resolution radar satellite data. Fivedate RADARSAT fine-beam SAR images over the rural-urban fringe of the Greater Toronto Area were acquired during May to August in 2002. One scene of Landsat TM imagery was acquired in 1988 for change detection. The major landuse/land-cover classes were high-density bu...
